BcA. Michal Sýkora – A multi-genre sound engineer – tonmeister based in Lofoten, Northern Norway. Working both on live events and in the studio. Toured around the world with multiple theatre shows. Working project based, as well as an externist for rentals.
Be it an orchestra, electronics, theatre, shakuhachi, gneiss stones or trap vocals with a live band, I love to make things sound better. I studied classical music and jazz recording at Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, Czechia.
amazing small PA

I was able to aquire a small but mighty PA system, namely d&b Audiotechnik E8, E15X and 5D. The system is dedicated to bring the cleanest possible sound for the smaller gigs I work on. The speakers can also be used as delays, front fills or stage monitors for larger systems. With incredible detail better than some studio monitors, impressive loudness, very light weight, and being rain proof, I feel they are a very good starting point.
choosing new studio monitors

I’m in the process of choosing new studio monitors for critical listening, mixing and mastering. I used part of the Samfunnsløftet Talentstipend grant awarded to me in 2024, to fund a part of the trip to the showroom of Musikelektronik Geithain in their factory in Germany, to do a direct comparison of the contenders.
aesthetics

In live settings, when required by the genre, I like to blend the acoustic sound of the instruments with their amplified sound, so that no one can tell if it’s amplified until I turn it off for comparison. For electronic music, I enjoy when the sound is properly felt as well as heard as intended.

In the studio, I aim to preserve the sonic characteristics and energy of the artist’s rough mix, while tuning the balance of the spectrum, which results in translating the mix as more influential, powerful and polished at the same time.
